Anthony Brown
Managing Director

Anthony Brown originally trained and qualified as a lawyer, studying first at Manchester University and then in London. Having practiced for a short time with a leading London firm, his interest in fine art led him to the art world in 1982 and within only three years he had founded Connaught Brown on Albemarle Street.

It is testament to his enthusiasm and success as an art dealer that, having started from scratch and in spite of the notorious difficulty of breaking into the art market, Connaught Brown has, over the years, established a strong international reputation among collectors and museums. The gallery is highly respected for its knowledge of and specialization in the field of Post-Impressionist and Modern Master works. Anthony organizes frequent exhibitions, many of which have been seminal in their re-evaluation of the art historical importance of certain artists and movements.

Anthony takes great pride in the accessible nature and the friendly atmosphere of his gallery. His natural ability to relate to his clients and to communicate to them his love of art ensures that their visit to the gallery is always an interesting one, whether they are there to make a purchase or simply to discuss the work.

In his work as patron of the arts, Anthony is the Chairman of the British Friends of the Art Museums of Israel. He has served on the executive committee of Friends of the Tate Gallery and continues to serve on the educational advisory committee of the Dulwich Art Gallery. He is also a member of the Society of London Art Dealers.
